Well after 9 weeks without I am back on mtx so now just have to wait for it to work again. I had to stop because of a cough. I had a ct scan which showed some scarring on the lungs - nothing to worry about the consultant said but how do you not worry about that. She said I can go back on mtx but have to have a review appointment with my rheumy consultant - made for early January. I suppose I will need something else as well as hydroy and mtx as they don't seem to be enough to keep my lungs clear. I can't get above 7.5 mg before the mtx reduces my neutrophils by too much.
I have to confess I feel fairly freaked out about getting it in my lungs - that wasn't something that ever crossed my mind. I know I didn't ask the right questions. I have to have a lung function test next week and then the doctor will write to my GP and rheumy.

9weeks without mtx has left me slow and creaky so I was very grateful for the steroid injection this morning. Lets hope I wake up full of the joys of spring.BigGrin It's the big 60 next week and at the moment I am feeling every year of it.

Hi Sue

So sorry you have been having such a rough time of it and I can understand your concern about your lungs. I hope that your appointment with the Rheumy consultant will be reassuring. Hope that the Methotrexate and the steroids do the trick and get you more mobile ready to celebrate your significant birthday in style!!Smile

Hi Sue

Sorry you are having problems. I was in a similar position to you at this time last year (just before my 60 too!) I had to have ct scan, chest xray etc and be off mxt for 9 weeks. I had the mother of flare ups and had massive doses of steroids. They found emphesema in my lung which frightened me to distraction but I could go back on mxt and was feeling much better within no time. I hope this is the same for you (without the emphesema of course.) Good luck with the tests

Sorry that things are not so good for you at the moment. I am sure that your are worrying about
your lungs but I am sure you will be in good hands and hopefully get back on mtx shortly

Hi Sue

I must clarify something. The emphesema I have is caused by smoking many years ago, nothing to do with RA or mxt. I have just read my message again and I didn't make that clear. I am so sorry. I hope it didn't make you worry more. My intention was to make you feel better.

hope you get back on mtx soon, we all hate it but it works i was of my mtx for 4 weeks and i had flare ups, i didnt think mtx was working and always said i didnt want to be on it but now i know better, i am also 60 and a bit( cough cough) hope everything goes ok for you,

Thanks all for the support. Yes Sylvia, I used to wonder if the mtx was actually doing anything - now I know it does!! I was so pleased to be taking those tablets on Saturday. The steroid injection hasn't worked as magically as last time but I think I am a little less stiff today. I know I've been lucky not to go into a major flare (yet)
The rheumy nurse rang to say my latest bloods show rising liver levels so have another in 2 weeks. How can they be rising when I'm not on the mtx - I give up.
Birthday celebrations are going to be low key. I went to see the Port Isaac Fisherman Friends last noight with my daughter (it was her 23rd birthday so a treat foer us both) and on Sunday week we are off to London to see the Lion King -I can't wait. The family had suggested a party but it is always me that does most of that sort of organising and I just don't have the energy to enjoy it. My older daughter would have done it but she has a new baby so is somewhat occupied. And baby Bethany is the best present anyone could haveLove
Anyway I will see how the lung function tests go next week. Fingers crossed.
